From Body Carre we are going to see two pregnancies by two friends, from two different perspectives and countries, one from Latin America and the other from Spain. I hope you like it and see if you are able to find those little differences.
At 10 weeks pregnant, the baby is already a ball in the uterus, but mothers cannot feel its movements because its size does not reach the maximum of 5 cm! It is still very small, but it is no longer considered an embryo. The most dangerous part of training and pregnancy is also already at the end. Now his head begins to be more proportional to his body, unlike the previous week, his eyes, hands and legs are growing. He’s already swallowing amniotic fluid. His spine is already drawn on the ultrasound to be able to see its contours and the silhouette of the spinal cord that is in formation. The kidneys are already operating in full swing and filter all the amniotic fluid that your baby swallows.
In this stage of development, its main organs are already formed, as well as the nails, as well as the small hairs that begin to emerge. His genitalia are in the process of being finalized and will soon be distinguished on ultrasound. This week your little baby is the size of a small olive.

The internal sensations of the mother in the 10th week of pregnancy
10 weeks of gestation. Excessive sleepiness and nausea are part of this stage, but stay calm and take time to rest as much as possible. Your stomach begins to round and your waist becomes wider. It will become more and more noticeable that you are giving life to a baby.
A new discomfort may arise in this new stage, which is the accumulation of saliva in the mouth. The feeling of a mouthful of saliva constantly could happen due to high heartburn or even constant vomiting during this period. However, the symptom is temporary and will disappear as quickly as it came, from one moment to the next. Back pain is common. It’s all part of the process of changing the ligaments of the uterus, just like any other transformation of the body to control the growth and development of this little baby in the last 9 weeks of pregnancy.

Here are some of the most common symptoms of a 10 week pregnancy:
- Abdominal ligament pain. Don’t be surprised if you start to feel some pain in your abdomen as it expands to accommodate the growing baby. While some moms don’t really notice them, others find these sensations – called “abdominal ligament pain” – absolutely painful. If you’re 10 weeks pregnant with twins, your ligament pain could be even more noticeable. Let your obstetrician determine if the discomfort is intense or if you are only concerned in some way by some of your 10 week pregnancy symptoms.
- Growing breasts. Your breasts have probably gotten bigger in the 10th week of pregnancy, as they have been preparing for breastfeeding for weeks.
- Morning sickness. Nausea and vomiting are quite common at 10 weeks of pregnancy. The good news is that they will probably go away shortly after you hit the second trimester, so you don’t need to worry.
- Humor changes. Changes in your hormones can be to blame for a roller coaster of emotions.
- You feel fatigued, here’s why: Not only is your body working hard and tirelessly to provide you with what is necessary for the baby’s growth, but your sleep can be interrupted by some very strange dreams.
- Increased vaginal discharge. Increased blood flow to your vagina, along with increased estrogen production, could cause more of a clear, odorless discharge called leukorrhea. It might sound a bit grotesque, but this substance is simply nature’s way of getting rid of bacteria. But if you notice that it is colored, stained with blood, has a bad smell or causes discomfort; call your doctor. They can be caused by something else.
- Visible veins. Those blue stripes serve an important purpose – they carry a ton of extra blood to your baby.
Development of pregnancy at week 10
Your 10 week pregnant tummy is probably starting to show up. That’s because your baby continues to grow rapidly, so your tummy has started to develop some extra curve. You may still not look pregnant to some people who know you, but you may need some pants with an elastic waist and some loose tops right around 10 weeks pregnant.
Many doctors recommend gaining about three to five pounds during the first trimester for BMI average pregnant women. So you are well on your way if you are 10 weeks pregnant, having gained a few pounds.

But don’t worry if you haven’t gained as much weight, or even if you’ve lost weight due to morning sickness. Wait to put the weight back on during the second trimester when the nausea subsides.
Ultrasound at week 10 of pregnancy
At ten weeks pregnant, the baby has arm joints, cartilage, and bones are forming. The vital organs of your 10-week-old fetus are fully developed and beginning to function. Nails and hair are starting to show up too! And can you believe that the baby is busy practicing swallowing and kicking inside your 10 weeks pregnant tummy?
Ten weeks is an important time if you have decided to do some genetic testing in the first trimester. Genetic testing is optional, it depends on the tests you want to get, but a genetic counselor can help you decide, always based on your family history and some risk factors.
The nuchal translucency test typically occurs between weeks 10 and 14. It tests your fetus for the risk of Down syndrome and various chromosomal abnormalities. To do this, you will have a painless ultrasound, and the baby’s nuchal crease (back of the neck) will be measured for signs of abnormality. The NTS is usually done as part of a “First Trimester Screen” where your blood is tested and your risk is assessed based on the results of both the ultrasound and the blood test.A cell-free fetal DNA test, also known as a non-invasive prenatal test, is a blood test performed at week 10 or later. Sample mom’s blood to look for risk signs for Down syndrome, Edward syndrome, Patau syndrome, and other chromosomal abnormalities.
Other more invasive tests – CVS and amniocentesis – can be used to diagnose abnormalities as well. They are performed normally, if you are at high risk of having a baby with a chromosomal abnormality, based on family history, risk factors, or NTS or NIPT results. CVS (chorionic villus sampling), given between weeks 10 and 12, uses an ultrasound to determine the location of the placenta. Then, using the ultrasound as a guide, the doctor either uses a speculum inserted into the cervix or a needle through your belly to collect the cells from the placenta. These cells are tested for genetic abnormalities.
If you opt for amniocentesis, your doctor will schedule it for a date between weeks 15 and 20. Overwhelmed by all the first and second trimester tests? trust us; Once you’re done with this, you can focus on more things to do.
Considerations regarding pregnancy at week 10
