Best Serums For Eyelashes And Brows

Nothing frames eyes better than long, voluminous lashes. But if Mother Nature does not give you thick and long natural eyelashes, all is not lost.

You have several options to get the lashes you’ve always dreamed of, from masks and tints to false eyelashes and even eyelash extensions.

What if there was a way to strengthen your own natural lashes so they grow longer, thicker and curler ? There is! It’s what lash serums do.

In recent years there has been a notable increase in products claiming to enhance and help boost natural lash growth. They are usually applied topically and most claim that with daily use, lashes will lengthen in just a few weeks .

We are going to analyze the most popular and highest rated products on the market to see if they really work, and more importantly, if they are safe.

For this we are going to go to the INCI, to see the ingredients that compose them , something that consumers do not usually do, but which is especially important in products like these, so close to the eyes and with a price that is usually quite high.

I will analyze each ingredient individually, and explain what its function is and if it has any side effects. If the ingredient is analyzed in another article, I will put the link so that you can find it easily.

In this post is the complete analysis of the two best options, while of the remaining 8 options there is only a summary, so that it does not get too long. But if you want to read the entire analysis, I leave a link where it is complete.

At the end of the analysis you will find information that will be very useful to learn more about this unknown cosmetic. You will discover how eyelash serums work, what you should look for to choose one, how to apply it and what are the risks of its use.

Without further delay, let’s dive right into the analysis.

Eyelash and Eyebrow Treatment: Growth and Density by Nezeni Cosmetics

Check price

Created especially to give your eyelashes and eyebrows more prominence, this powerful revolutionary serum is packed with actives that have been clinically proven to improve the appearance of brittle and fragile eyelashes, transforming them into longer, thicker and healthier eyelashes.

Nezeni can boast of what very few have achieved, an effective treatment to give you stunning lashes in just a few weeks. Infused with Procapil complex, hyaluronic acid, panthenol, and millet extract, this serum can provide everything your lashes need.

Its 100% natural ingredients do not contain any type of hormone or ingredient harmful to the skin, which makes it safe and effective even for the most sensitive eyes. Its distinction is that it provides users with reliable results, without side effects.

In addition, it has 5 ml of product (most have 3 ml), and a fine brush applicator that glides smoothly and facilitates the application of the serum in the desired area. Introducing it into your personal care routine will be very easy, because it does not take 30 seconds to apply.

Do you need to thicken your eyebrows too? Perfect, because this ambivalent serum also treats depopulated eyebrows, leaving them lush and thick, just like you’ve always wanted them.

And now we go to the most important thing, the ingredients, which are what are going to tell us if this serum really works.

This analysis only serves to confirm what we suspected, that the Nezeni Cosmetics eyelash and eyebrow treatment is the best option you have right now to take care of your eyelashes.

It has few ingredients, but all of them have a function in the formula, a sum of benefits that make this serum a global solution.

On the one hand, there is the active X10 Lash , which uses a powerful molecule extracted from millet to stimulate cell growth and make eyelashes grow faster. According to in vivo studies, it can increase lash length by 21-45% after 2 months of regular use.

Also present is the Procapil complex , a mixture of Apigenin, Oleanolic Acid, and the Biotinoyl Tripeptide-1 peptide. This synergy increases hair growth by stimulating blood vessels; inhibit a molecule that promotes hair loss, and prevent hair loss by anchoring the hair in the fall phase.

Added to this are two powerful moisturizers, such as panthenol and hyaluronic acid , which are great hair conditioners, leaving it hydrated, nourished and shiny. The wheat extract acts as a softener, making the hair more flexible to avoid breakage, and the sunflower oil rich in vitamin E fills it with beneficial nutrients so that each eyelash grows healthy and long.

The result is fuller, longer and thicker eyelashes and eyebrows without the need for prostaglandins, which offer a natural result after 8 weeks of constant use twice a day.

You can buy it on the laboratory’s website cheaper than on amazon, but you choose 🙂

Eyelash and eyebrow lengthening serum + Lashes de Belle Azul

If you are looking for a natural formula, without prostaglandins, that improves the health of your eyelashes by lengthening and thickening them, + Lashes may be the way to go.

It is specially formulated with natural hair-strengthening and regenerating ingredients, to effectively lengthen the length of the eyelashes, and achieve a fuller and fuller appearance.

The container is one of the largest you will see, with up to 7 ml of product, so it will last for many months.

The applicator is thin and pointed, like a brush but stiffer. It glides well along the lash roots, as if you were applying eyeliner, both above and below the eyes.

  • Copper Peptide (Copper Tripeptide-1)Also called GHK-Cu, it is a copper peptide complex that occurs naturally in body fluids (plasma, saliva, and urine). It has unique wound healing properties by stimulating the breakdown of oversized and unhealthy collagen in scar tissue, and stimulating the production of healthy and pleasant collagen afterwards. It stimulates the production of several ingredients identical to those of the skin (for example, collagen, elastin and glycosaminoglycans). It has an important anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effect. There are some promising studies showing that GHK-Cu can improve skin elasticity, clarity, firmness, and reduce lines and wrinkles. It can improve hair growth by enlarging hair follicles (and larger follicles produce longer and thicker hair).
  • Prohairin-Β4 (Octapeptide-2) : Acts as an active to promote hair growth. It is a double-layered encapsulated biomimetic peptide that helps increase cell growth and migration. Promotes hair growth by activating hair follicle stem cells. Improves blood circulation by providing nutrition to the hair roots and skin; and reduces hair loss, stimulating the production and growth of new hair.
  • Argania Spinosa Callus Culture Extract : Argan callus (stem) cell extract that, together with Isomalt, Lecithin, Sodium Benzoate and Aqua form the compound PhytoCellTec Argan, developed to improve the regenerative capacity of dermal and hypodermic stem cells, thus achieving a deep skin rejuvenation and wrinkle filling. In vitro and clinical studies in healthy volunteers showed that PhytoCellTec Argan: effectively stimulates the regeneration of dermal connective tissue, thus increasing the density of the skin; helps the skin to regain its firmness; stimulates the proliferation of dermal and hypodermic stem cells; Y
significantly reduces the depth of wrinkles in the crow’s feet area and the nasolabial fold. It is the first active ingredient capable of protecting and vitalizing human dermal and hypodermic stem cells. Not only will this help speed up your skin’s natural repair process, it also fights skin aging at the root.
  • Sodium Benzoate : Analyzed in the Nuxellence de Nuxe eye contour .

As you can see, it uses peptides, vitamins, hydrolyzed keratin, fatty acids and botanical extracts, instead of prostaglandins, to achieve a lengthening and strengthening of the eyelashes.

It is free of parabens, phthalates, and BHT, although there is a harmful preservative in the product.

Depending on the brand, you will start to see visible results: longer, stronger, fuller lashes and improved brows in 4-8 weeks.

RevitaLash Advanced Eyelash Strengthening and Conditioning Treatment

If you are looking for how to grow, lengthen and reduce the breakage of your eyelashes, RevitaLash is a serum that achieves it more than enough.

It is a conditioner and strengthener that nourishes your lashes while improving your overall health. The product, according to the brand, will improve significantly, becoming brighter, stronger, longer and more hydrated.

RevitaLash Advanced has been ophthalmologist-tested, and its formula is hypoallergenic, which means there is less irritation and should be safe for users with sensitive skin and eyes.

The formula is not tested on animals and is vegetarian, and you can safely use it if you wear contact lenses or eyelash extensions.

  • Dechloro Dihydroxy Difluoro Ethylcloprostenolamide: A prostaglandin analog. Prostaglandin analogs are used to treat most forms of glaucoma and ocular hypertension, but they have certain side effects. Prostaglandins are chemical compounds that are found naturally in almost every tissue in our body and are responsible for signaling inflammation within the body. As such, they are associated with common symptoms of inflammation around the eyes such as swollen eyelids (also called chemosis), redness, itching, and tearing. In addition to chronic irritation, it is also known to darken the skin of the eyelid and the color of the iris in people with light brown or hazel eyes, as well as can cause a sunken-eye appearance by reducing the layers of orbital fat around the socket. Of the eye.

  • Pentylene Glycol : Analyzed in Nezeni Cosmetics anti-wrinkle cream .
  • Biotinoyl Tripeptide-1 : Analyzed in Nezeni Cosmetics eyelash serum.
  • Octapeptide-2 : Tested in Belle Azul’s Eyelash and Eyebrow Lengthening Serum + Lashes (above).

Its two main ingredients are Dechloro Dihydroxy Difluoro Ethylcloprostenolamidee, which is a derivative of prostaglandins that mimics the actions of hormones to stimulate eyelash growth; and the second is a muscle relaxant, Chlorphenesin.

It also contains ingredients such as Panthenol (a moisturizer that hydrates the lashes) and Citric Acid (which is not only a preservative but also helps to strengthen the lashes).

Although there have not been many serious side effects related to RevitaLash, it should be noted that having a derivative of prostaglandins, so there is the possibility of eye irritation, swelling or redness, along with the other side effects such as darkening of the skin around the eye or iris area.

For a less risky option, try a more natural formula, like the one above.

Purified Eyelash Serum by LiLash

This LiLash serum is specially formulated so that you can achieve longer, fuller and stronger eyelashes.

Responsible for the achievement is mainly a prostaglandin derivative, along with Provitamin B5 and peptides that nourish and strengthen the eyelashes.

It does not have parabens, but it does have a preservative that is irritating to certain types of skin. It must be applied every day to achieve lasting results.

M2Lashes Eyelash Activating Serum by M2Beaute

Check price

With the M2Lashes serum you will achieve long and prominent lashes, and intensely hydrated. This is due to Provitamin B5, hyaluronic acid, and of course, the prostaglandin analog.

This puts the serum at risk of producing the side effects of these components. The brand eludes it completely, but the risk is there.

For the price it is, it could have more ingredients that strengthen the follicles, to prevent breakage or fall of existing lashes.

Eyelash Serum by Nanolash

Nanolash is one of the worst eyelash serums that I have analyzed, since it not only has the risk of the side effects of prostaglandins; it also does not have any other active ingredient that strengthens, hydrates or stimulates the growth of eyelashes.

The formula is made up of an anti-inflammatory, a thickener, a solvent, and a preservative, which happens to be an irritant.

For the price it is, it could include other assets that support growth and strengthen lashes. So it is an option that I would not recommend at all.

Orphica Realash Eyelash Conditioner

This high performance lash lengthening serum is designed to transform your lashes with a prostaglandin analog and a tripeptide.

Meanwhile, Provitamin B5 and hyaluronic acid help hydrate and shine existing lashes, making them appear more voluminous.

It is a fairly complete formula, taking into account that its price is quite tight, although you must always be careful with prostaglandin analogs, due to the side effects they can generate.

FEG Eyelash Enhancer Serum

It is striking because it is one of the cheapest serums on the market, it does not reach € 10, while the others exceed € 50.

But this is noticeable in the ingredients that make it up. None of them can really bring anything interesting to the lashes. On the contrary, with an irritating ingredient in its composition, this serum will do us more harm than good.

So don’t bother trying it, it’s not worth it. If not, see for yourself by reading the detailed analysis of your INCI attached below.

You can enter the full technical analysis in the following article: FEG Eyelash Enhancer Serum, Analysis and Alternative .

RapidLash Eyelash Strengthening Serum

RapidLash is one of the cheapest, best-performing lash serums on the market. Its formula avoids the derivatives of prostaglandins (a drug used to treat glaucoma with multiple side effects), and focuses on a complex of peptides that increase the growth of eyelashes.

The results are quite surprising in a short time, especially due to the inclusion of coral oil in the formula. Although there are some buts. It contains certain ingredients that I don’t like at all, like Phenoxyethanol and Chlorphenesin, both of which are irritants.

Therefore, it can cause more sensitive eye problems. If you feel any problem or side effect, it is advisable to stop using it immediately.

EvoEye Eyelash Growth Formula by Evobeaute

This serum is recommended by Amazon for the growth of eyelashes, however, among its ingredients I have not found any active ingredient that promotes the growth of eyelashes, or lengthens the anagen phase, so I don’t think I can do much about it. .

However, it has several hydrating and strengthening actives, such as hyaluronic acid or Provitamin B5, and various stimulators of collagen and elastin synthesis, so your eyelashes will look healthier and more vigorous.

The bad thing is that they have a good amount of parabens, preservatives that are harmful, and being in such a delicate area, I do not want to risk it.

Simon & Tom eyelash and eyebrow serum

This lash growth enhancing serum is formulated with skin-friendly ingredients such as castor oil, seaweed extracts, and argan oil.

It is popular as a safer alternative to other potentially harmful lash serums on the market, as it not only contains botanical extracts and other active ingredients to promote the growth of fuller and healthier lashes, it is also certified as dermatologist approved.

It works quite well, and you will start to see results after four weeks of use.

How do eyelash serums work?

If you are adding this product to your daily routine, do you need to know exactly what eyelash growth serums do and how they work? And to understand how they work, you first need to understand how the tabs work.

First things first, eyelash growth differs into three phases: Anagen (the growth phase), Catagen (the transition phase), and Telogen (the rest phase).

  • Anagen phase : The eyelashes are actively growing. This phase lasts between 30 and 45 days, and only 40 percent of the upper lashes and 15 percent of the lower lashes grow at any one time. Each lash will grow to a specific length and then stop (this explains why we don’t have to cut our lashes).
  • Catagen phase : At this point, the hair follicle shrinks. If an eyelash falls out during this phase, it will not grow back immediately, because the follicle needs to complete the catagen phase before it can move on to the next. This phase lasts between two and three weeks.
  • Telogen phase : Final phase of rest, which can last more than 100 days before the eyelash falls and a new one begins to grow. But don’t be scared, they won’t all fall off at the same time! Each individual eyelash is in its own phase of the growth cycle.

Generally, it takes four to eight months to completely replace an eyelash.

So how do eyelash growth serums work?

The ingredients are combined in specific proportions to create a formula that helps enhance the attractiveness, appearance and beauty of natural lashes.

These ingredients basically work together to condition and strengthen the lashes so that they don’t break or fall as much, protect them from external aggressions, and condition and add shine to them.

But for an eyelash serum to really make a difference, it has to affect the hair growth cycle and increase the anagen phase.

What to look for in an eyelash serum

We know that choosing an eyelash serum among all the options on the market is not easy. To help you, we give you the key elements that you should look for in a serum so that you can choose the best one.

The most research-backed ingredients are prescription-only (that is, with prostaglandins), although very good results can be obtained with serums based on natural ingredients, or based on prostaglandin analogs.

Natural ingredients won’t work as fast as prostaglandin-based ones, but there are generally fewer side effects to worry about.

The efficacy of this ingredient was discovered by chance, as a side effect of treatment with Bimatoprost , a glaucoma drug that lowers blood pressure in the eye. The patients noticed that one of the side effects of using Bimatoprost was longer and thicker eyelashes.

What are prostaglandins? They are types of lipids derived from fatty acids. Sounds harmless, right? And this is how manufacturers of eyelash growth products can say that their products are all natural.

But not all prostaglandin analogs work as well as Bitamoprost, based on research with rabbits that found other analogs were not as good at lash growth.

However, prostaglandins should not be used lightly, as they have some side effects : they can darken the color of the eyelid and iris (blue eyes can literally turn brown); cause retinal inflammation and blurred vision, red or brown rings around the eyes, red eyes, itchy eyelids, and general irritation.

Eye irritation is easy to remove, but ocular surface dysfunction and chronic dry eye can affect vision quality and eye comfort.

Some of these side effects can be permanent, and do not go away even if you stop using the product. And it is speculated that this use of prostaglandins could create resistance to glaucoma medication.

Prostaglandins, despite these unpleasant side effects, are still present and in eyelash serums.

According to the brands, prostaglandin derivatives are used that have been adapted for cosmetic use, and therefore, they do not have their side effects and are totally harmless.

But there is very little research on this, and many users have reported problems very similar to prostaglandins, so there is a risk.

In fact, it is known that prostaglandin analogs can cause dry eye syndrome. By promoting inflammation of the ocular surface, prostaglandin analogs can disrupt tear film production and expression in all layers. This includes the water layer of our tear film expressed by the lacrimal gland.

How do you know if there are prostaglandins in an eyelash growth product ? This is not always easy, as you will not find the word prostaglandin in the ingredient list.

These lash growth actives are analogous to prostaglandin and can appear as a long chain of intimidating chemicals, such as Isopropyl Phenylhydroxypentene Dihydroxycyclopentylheptenate (in Lilash), or Trifluoromethyl Dechloro Ethylprostenolamide (in Nanolash).

Another very common ingredient in eyelash serums is biotin. Biotin is a B group vitamin, and it is said to improve hair health by strengthening keratin, the protein that makes it up.

Unfortunately, the influence of biotin on hair and nail growth is closer to myth than fact. There is no convincing evidence that biotin increases lash growth .

And because biotin is rarely efficiently absorbed by the skin, it really isn’t worth using them for this purpose.

Eyelashes, like hair, are made of protein. In fact, they are more than 90% protein. This is where amino acids come into play. Amino acids are not only the building blocks of protein (and therefore your lashes), but they also nourish and repair damage.

This is why they are a main ingredient in so many lash enhancement formulas.

Many brands include amino acids in their formulas that go by a different name: peptides. A peptide is simply a chain of amino acids.

Peptides nourish, condition and strengthen brittle and brittle lashes. Some also promote eyelash growth.

Speaking of proteins, collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body. We know all about its benefits for skin and hair (it does everything from repairing damaged strands to sagging skin and wrinkles), but did you know that it is also an incredibly transformative ingredient in many eyelash growth formulas?

Collagen plumps hair, just like it plumps skin.

You have probably also read about the use of castor oil as a star ingredient in eyelash growth serums.

But while the effects of this and other oils can make your lashes look longer, it’s likely just a visual effect, not a true growth. Perhaps the shine and coating effect of the oils can give the illusion that the hairs are thicker.

Still, it is a good oil for keeping lashes hydrated and conditioned.

It is not uncommon to find hyaluronic acid in an eyelash serum, as it is known, it is a great moisturizer that can absorb water up to several times its weight.

Its effect is similar to Panthenol (provitamin B5) which is a great moisturizer and emollient. These ingredients can increase the flexibility of the hair, reducing breakage and breakage, or even coat it to make it appear thicker.

Moisture is the key to healthy lashes, just as it is to healthy skin. Without water, lashes are prone to breakage.

However, there is no proof that these ingredients can increase hair growth.

Look for products that come with an applicator brush that is fine and precise (similar to a liquid eyeliner-type applicator), not a mascara-style brush.

Brushes that allow you to apply the product on the lash line give much more noticeable results, as the serum can penetrate deeper into the skin.

The price and size of some serums can be a bit misleading. Not all containers contain the same amount, and many brands pack two or three milliliters to lower the price and that you think is cheaper, although it may be more expensive.

As an approximation, 3 ml last 2 months, since the amount of product to apply is minimal.

Before buying a product, check how much it includes, and compare the prices based on this.

How to use an eyelash serum?

If you decide to use a serum to improve the appearance of your eyelashes, you should know how to use them to get the best results.

The application of serums, in most cases, is very similar to the application of liquid eyeliner (in fact, the applicator is very similar).

But before applying the serum, it is important to clean the area well , the skin around the eyes must be completely clean, without traces of makeup, creams or grease.

Afterwards, the product should be applied to the upper and lower lash line, just wet the brush and apply a very thin layer and let it dry overnight so that it can really penetrate the lash follicles.

When putting the product so close to the eye, care must be taken so that it does not come into contact with the skin or eyes.

In addition, the openings of the glands in the eyelids that are essential for the proper functioning of the tears, can become clogged, thus causing discomfort, styes and infections.

Start at the inside corner, working your way out. And use the hand on the same side as the eye you are working on, so your vision is not obstructed.

Do not apply it directly to the hair, as many of them are in the lag phase, and the serum will not have any effect on growth (beyond preventing breakage).

How often should it be applied?

Each serum has its own instructions, but it generally has to be applied once a day, preferably at night, so that it can work its magic.

The key to these serums is regularity, if you don’t apply it every day, you probably won’t see results.

For some serums, when full lash potential is reached, you can space out the application to a few days a week.

What happens if you stop using it?

If you run out or simply forget to continue applying the serum, then your lashes will return to their natural state.

Can it be used with contact lenses?

Most products are safe to use with contact lenses, although you should make sure of this by reading the instructions.

Can it be used with mascara or false eyelashes?

Yes, the serum is absorbed within a few minutes of application, and does not interfere at all with other eye or lash products, such as mascara, makeup or false eyelashes.

However, you have to be careful, as the main culprit for the loss of moisture from your lashes could be the mascara. It can be incredibly dry and debilitating, so it could spoil all the benefits of the serum.

Also, continuous rubbing to remove mascara can aggravate sensitive areas below and above your eyes, not to mention breaking your lashes too, which is a big deal.

The same goes for false eyelashes. Removing them without using any oil-based makeup remover can have an adverse effect on the health of your lashes. It could easily damage all the natural hair on your eyelids.

On the other hand, there are many dermatologists who are against the use of false eyelashes. Many say that frequent use of false eyelashes can have the same effect as traction alopecia.

This is because false eyelashes include a special medical adhesive, which is used to fix each strand of hair with the root of your real hair on the eyelids. Using this product can create a lot of stress and strain on the eyelids, which in turn results in loss of eyelashes.

When we can see the results?

Although each person is different, and reacts differently to the serum, if you use a prostaglandin-based serum, you may experience an increase in length, thickness and girth within 4-8 weeks.

Although in many cases, especially in serums based on natural ingredients, the results are more spaced over time.

It is also important to be realistic with your expectations of what the serum will do for your lashes. You will be able to regain the long curly eyelashes that you had, but if you have never had eyelashes, they will not lengthen as it does not have a base to work with.

Are eyelash serums safe?

Although both prescription and over-the-counter serums are safe for any skin type, it is advisable to avoid them if you have blepharitis, an inflammatory condition of the conjunctiva area where the eyelashes come from, or dry eye, because the products could worsen the symptom.

However, its ingredients can cause certain side effects in some people.

The most common side effects include redness and irritation of the area. If you experience either of the two, stop using the serum immediately.

Discoloration of the skin around the eyelids is also a possibility. Therefore, it is important to gently clean any excess serum on the eyelid.

In any cosmetic it is important to watch the expiration date , and even more so in the case of a product that will be so close to the eyes.

This is important, because if the recommended date is passed, the preservative will lose its effect, and there is a risk that bacteria will flourish and cause problems in your eyes, such as bacterial conjunctivitis.

How to enhance the effect of eyelash serums?

In addition to using the serum as directed, you can achieve the full growth potential of your eyelashes by making some changes to your lifestyle.

Eat a healthy diet that is high in vitamins and protein, do not rub your eyes as this increases the chances of eyelashes falling out, and remember to remove your eye makeup before going to sleep each night.

Eye makeup can cause build-up over time, and can lead to loss of eyelashes.

There are many eyelash serums to choose from. Finding one that works effectively and quickly to create longer, thicker lashes can be difficult, but the list above is a good place to start.

Whichever product you choose, be sure to do your research, read the ingredients, and know what the possible side effects are.

Reading and interpreting an INCI can be somewhat complicated, but remember that the ingredients on the list are available from higher to lower concentration, so those that are in the first positions are the ones that will have the most effect; And if you don’t know an ingredient, Google it to find out what its function is in the formula.

When you start using the eyelash serum, you will need to be regular and patient, as most products take several months for results to begin to show.

And once you’ve found a product that works, keep using it to maintain results.
