Decléor contour INCI analysis
- Pentylene Glycol : Analyzed in Nezeni Cosmetics Intensive Antiage Eye Contour .
- PEG-6 and PEG-32: It is the abbreviation of polyethylene glycol, a mixture of compounds, of polymers that have been joined together. In cosmetics, PEGs work in three ways: as emollients (they help to soften and lubricate the skin), as emulsifiers (they help water-based and oil-based ingredients to mix properly), and as vehicles that help introduce other ingredients deeper into the skin. PEGs are almost always followed by a number, such as PEG-6. This number represents the approximate molecular weight of this compound. Generally, cosmetics use PEGs with small molecular weights. The lower the molecular weight, the easier it is for the compound to penetrate the skin. Regardless of molecular size, PEGs of all sizes can penetrate through the skin with compromised barrier function. Therefore, it is very important to avoid products with PEG if your skin is not in optimal condition. The problem comes when the product contains a lot of undesirable ingredients, as the PEGs will facilitate their penetration into the deepest layers of your skin. By altering the surface tension of the skin, PEGs can also alter the natural balance of moisture. Also, PEGs are not always pure, they are often contaminated with a large amount of toxic impurities, such as ethylene oxide; 1,4-dioxane; polycyclic aromatic compounds; and heavy metals such as lead, iron, cobalt, nickel, cadmium, and arsenic. Many of these impurities are related to cancer. Responsible manufacturers strive to remove these impurities, so make sure your PEGs come from a respected brand. - Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) : Tested in Nezeni Cosmetics cream .
- Centaurea Cyanus Flower Water : The water of the flowers of Cornflower or Azulejo, which acts mainly as an anti-inflammatory, skin conditioner and astringent. It is rich in polyphenols, specifically flavonoids and anthocyanins. It’s quite an expensive ingredient, so it’s not used as often as many other botanicals, and when it does, it’s in eye-related products.
- Butylene Glycol : Analyzed in ClarinsMen’s anti-wrinkle cream .
- Ribes Nigrum (Black Currant) Seed Oil : Oil from the seeds of the black currant (also known as cassis), contains a high concentration of essential fatty acids Omega 3 and Omega 6, tocopherols, tocotrienols (forms of vitamin E), carotenoids, alpha-carotene, beta-carotene (both make vitamin A), and lutein. The high antioxidant profile of the black currant seed has great anti-aging and anti-free radical power, while the essential fatty acids improve the skin’s barrier and hydration.
- Siloxanetriol Alginate : It is an ester of siloxanetriol and alginic acid and works as a skin conditioning agent. It is often used in combination with caffeine in anti-cellulite products.
- Dimethicone : Tested in Shiseido Men’s Anti-Wrinkle Cream .
- Panthenol : Analyzed in the article Eye contour: Care, Treatments and Problems in the area , as Panthenol.
- Sodium Polyacrylate : Tested in Clinique For Men’s wrinkle cream .
- Citrus Aurantium Amara (Bitter Orange) Peel Oil : Oil extracted from the skin of bitter orange. It has antiseptic, antibacterial and fungicidal properties. Detoxifies, fights inflammation and vitalizes the skin. However, it can cause slight spots on the skin when sunbathing; so make sure, as always, to wear sunscreen.
- Rosa Damascena Flower Oil and Rosa Damascena Flower Extract : Oil and extract of a very fragrant rose used as a fragrance in cosmetics. Extensive research has shown it to have both benefits and contraindications. In the pros column, inhaling the fragrance of this flower appears to have relaxing properties, and the petals of the plant contain soothing and antioxidant compounds that can benefit the skin. On the other hand, the many chemicals that create the distinctive fragrance of this rose pose a risk that can cause skin irritation. The extract is obtained by extracting the flower, often using a solvent such as ethanol or water. Instead the oil is produced, not extracted.
- Boerhavia Diffusa Root Extract : Extract from the root of the Boerhavia Diffusa plant. Animal studies have shown that this plant has strong skin soothing activity. Like all plant extracts, it also has antioxidant capacity.
- Betula Alba Bark Extract : Analyzed in Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Cream (Synchronized Complex II) .
- Scrophularia Nodosa Extract : Extract of the scrofularia plant that acts as an anti-inflammatory, detoxifying, stimulating circulation, especially beneficial in chronic skin conditions accompanied by rashes, itching and irritation.
- Hydrolyzed Viola Tricolor Extract : Hydrolyzed extract of wild pansy, with soothing and antioxidant properties for the skin.
- Lilium Candidum Flower Extract : Extract of the lily flower, with soothing, anti-inflammatory and protective properties that is used in cosmetics to treat couperose.
- Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract : Rosemary leaf extract. Rosmarinic acid, one of the components of rosemary extract, is an antioxidant, and has a calming effect on the skin. Its aromatic components can cause sensitivity. However, in most skin care products, the amount of rosemary extract is unlikely to be a risk.
- Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil : Tested in Shiseido Men’s Anti-Wrinkle Cream .
- Gossypium Herbaceum (Cotton) Seed Oil : Also known as cottonseed oil, this non-fragrant vegetable oil works as an occlusive agent.
- Peg-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil : Tested in Shiseido Men’s Anti-Wrinkle Cream .
- Dipropylene Glycol : Tested in Shiseido Men’s Wrinkle Cream .
- Glycerin : Tested in ClarinsMen’s anti-wrinkle cream .
- Cotton seed Oil / Palm Oil Aminopropanediol Esters : It is the product obtained by transesterification of cotton seed oil and palm oil with Aminopropanediol, it works as a skin conditioning agent.
- Potassium Hydroxide : Potassium hydroxide (also known as caustic potash) is used in the cosmetic industry as a pH regulator or buffer in a wide variety of formulas. It has a unique ability to attract water molecules from its surroundings, and eventually dissolve in the water it had originally absorbed, balancing the formula without creating excess weight or changing the composition. Potassium hydroxide is extremely corrosive and can be a dangerous irritant when exposure is at high levels. However, it is a low-risk ingredient due to the low concentration levels found in cosmetic formulas.
- Tocopherol : Analyzed in ClarinsMen’s wrinkle cream as Tocopherol Acetate.
- Caffeine : Analyzed in ClarinsMen’s Anti-Wrinkle Cream .
- Biosaccharide Gum-1 : A polysaccharide derived from the fermentation of plants. It is a hydrating and soothing ingredient for the skin. It works by binding water to the epidermis and creating a moisturizing film on the skin that gives it a soft and smooth sensation. In addition to providing long-lasting hydration, it also acts as an anti-irritant.
- Steareth-20 : A synthetic polymer produced from polyethylene glycol (PEG) and stearyl alcohol. The numerical value of the name corresponds to the average number of ethylene oxide units. It is used as a cleaning agent, surfactant and emulsifier. It is safe for cosmetic use, however, because this ingredient comes from PPG, it may contain the pollutants ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane, both of which have high activity as carcinogens.
- Cetearyl Glucoside : Formed by the condensation of cetearyl alcohol (fatty acid) with glucose. It can be derived naturally (from coconut / corn oil) or chemically synthesized. It is an emulsifier and helps skin and hair retain moisture, giving it a velvety touch.
- Glycolipids : A type of lipid made up of sugar (monosaccharide) and fat (lipid). This blend of lipids work in multiple ways to improve texture, flexibility, and help soothe signs of skin sensitivity.
- Sclerotium Gum : Gelatinous thickening agent used in cosmetics due to its versatile properties. It is a polysaccharide produced through a fermentation process (basically fermented sugar) that can be used to reduce the level of oil required in formulas, has soothing and skin-softening properties, and is also used in hair products as a conditioning agent. It is stabilizing, controls viscosity, and is also used to prevent pigment separation.
- Glyceryl Stearate SE : Tested in Fiori di Cipria anti-wrinkle cream as Glyceryl stearate. The acronym “SE” stands for self emulsifying.
- Xanthan Gum : Analyzed in L’Oreal Men Expert’s anti-wrinkle cream .
- Ethylhexylglycerin : Analyzed in Nezeni antiage cream .
- N-Hydroxysuccinimide : It is an ester that activates the elimination of pigments originating in the blood responsible for the dark coloration and inflammation that it causes under the eye circles. It is slightly acidic, and is a known irritant to the skin, eyes, and mucous membranes.
- Chrysin : A natural isoflavone that is extracted from plants, specifically from passiflora caerulea (blue passion flower). In skin care, this ingredient is primarily used as a skin conditioning, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant agent. Some laboratory tests also suggest that it activates the urine diphosphate glucuronosyltransferase enzyme (UGT1A1), which helps remove pigmented bilirubin and iron deposits under the skin (dark circles).
- Palmitoyl Oligopeptide : Tested in Clinique For Men wrinkle cream .
- Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7: It is a synthetic peptide composed of four amino acids that is used in cosmetics to suppress the excessive production of interleukins, the chemical messengers that trigger the body’s inflammatory response. This negatively affects the skin’s support system, made up of collagen, elastin, and other proteins, and leads to wrinkles, sagging, and uneven skin tone. Studies have shown that this peptide can slow or suppress the production of excess interleukins, thereby inhibiting unnecessary and exaggerated inflammatory response and glycation damage. The higher the concentration of Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7, the greater the reduction in interleukin production, up to 40%.
- Linalool : Tested in ClarinsMen’s anti-wrinkle cream .
- Limonene : Analyzed in ClarinsMen’s anti-wrinkle cream.
- Citronellol : Tested in Shiseido Men’s Anti-Wrinkle Cream .
- Geraniol : A volatile fragrance ingredient extracted from geranium, geraniol is capable of causing sensitivity when applied to the skin. However, the risk of such a reaction has to do with the depth of penetration into the skin, and geraniol does not easily penetrate the skin. As such, when used in low concentrations, it is not among the most bothersome fragrance ingredients. Research has shown that geraniol can oxidize in the presence of air, causing damage when applied to the surface of the skin.
Summary Analysis Harmonie Calm Gel Soothing Eye Cream Decléor Rest Effect
As you can see, it is a fairly long list, with more than 40 ingredients, among which there are quite a few botanical ingredients that mainly work as painkillers, anti-inflammatories and antioxidants.
It also has a large proportion of shea butter, an ingredient that I really like; Chrysin, which helps to eliminate the dark color of the dark circles, and the combination of Palmitoyl Oligopeptide and Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7, which increase the collagen of the skin. Unfortunately, these last three ingredients are at the bottom of the list, and their effect will not be very strong.
At first glance, it is very attractive, but between extract and extract there are other ingredients that I do not like at all, such as the PEGs at the top of the list, silicone (Dimethicone), and other ingredients that cause irritation.
But at least it is a formula without parabens, without mineral oils, without artificial colors, without alcohol and without fragrance, something that not all brands can boast.
Alternative Creams
Although the contour is fine in terms of ingredients, it is not very complete, as it is limited to reducing inflammation and soothing the eye area. If you need something more complete, to minimize the wrinkles in the area, I recommend Nezeni Cosmetics Eye Contour.
It has fewer preservatives, it does not contain alcohol or silicones, and it has several active ingredients that eliminate fine lines. It’s a bit more expensive contour, but it’s definitely worth it. Check their analysis in the article on Analysis 20 Best Eye Contours on the Market .
