Flaxseed Gel for Hair: Benefits, Recipes, and More

Flaxseed is the well-known name for flax seeds, a herbaceous plant used since ancient times. The first reports of this plant and its seed are from 5,000 BC. Flax is used for the manufacture of fabrics, but the most common use of the seed is in the kitchen, because it is very rich in various nutrients such as fiber, fatty acids and proteins. It is also a functional food, since thanks to its antioxidant and anti-cancer compounds, it has preventive properties . Prevents diseases like cancer and the diabetes , helps in the functioning of the intestines, relieves symptoms of premenstrual syndrome and menopause . It has many otherbenefits for our health.

All these nutrients also help our hair to stay strong, shiny, smooth and with controlled frizz. Its use in aesthetics became widespread because the gel extracted from this seed, due to its texture, is a great curl activator and modeler. Sounds wonderful, right? And it is! We are going to learn how to use it.

A very simple and efficient way is to prepare a gel made from the seeds for your hair.

Flaxseed and the beauty of Hair

In addition to the many health benefits it provides, it can also be used effectively in hair treatment . You can produce a gel from the seeds, which, in addition to treating your hair, especially curly hair, also serves to end frizz naturally . Those who use this gel say that it shapes curls, reduces volume and even after a night of dancing, for example, the hairstyles stay in place and very soft!

It is worth trying, because flaxseed is so rich in nutrients that it will definitely help improve your hair.

Brown or golden flaxseeds?

There are two types of this seed on the market : brown and golden . Nutritionally, the gold is richer and therefore more expensive. The gel, when it looks brown in color, has a strong odor. We have tried both and felt no difference. We currently use the gold one, but because the price difference is considerable, we will probably only buy the brown one next time.

How to prepare cold Flaxseed Gel?

To prepare it you will only need flax seeds and water. We prefer sea bream, which is richer in omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants, but can also be brown in color.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of filtered water
  • 2 tablespoons flax seeds

Preparation

Mix the flaxseed with the water. Store in a glass container in the refrigerator for 8 hours . Then, strain and you will have the gel ready to use. If you prefer a thicker gel, add 3 tablespoons of seeds. Put the gel in a container with a spray bottle and the rest that you will not use, store it in the fridge for a few days.

Note: Many people boil flaxseed. However, in this way it can lose many of its properties because the heat oxidizes. We prefer to use the natural gel as indicated above, it is easier and more efficient for us, although below we indicate the other recipes that exist.

Simple Flaxseed Gel Homemade Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon of flax seeds
  • 1 cup of water
  • Strainer
  • Container to store the gel

Preparation

Place the seeds in a pot of water and boil for five minutes. The seed releases a “slime” and that in turn, will be the gel. Turn off the heat, strain the seeds and let cool. Store in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Application mode

Combine the gel with a light cream. Apply after the cream and massage well. Many people like to use it just because it is more hydrating than industrial activators . It depends on you.

Homemade moisturizing gel recipe

How about trying a flaxseed gel moisturizer ? In addition to providing nutrients for the hair, its emollient properties help to hydrate the hair.

Ingredients

  • One tablespoon of flaxseed gel (nourishes, helps strengthen  and improves frizz)
  • One tablespoon of aloe vera gel (helps in growth and strength , and acts as a natural conditioner)
  • A dessert spoon of coconut oil (penetrates the hair and prevents protein loss, restores moisture and adds shine)
  • A tablespoon of moisturizing hair cream.

(If you have short to medium length hair, make half the recipe.)

Preparation

Mix all the ingredients well (see the final consistency of the cream above). After washing your hair , remove excess water with a towel and apply the cream all over your hair . Avoid getting too much on the scalp . Put on a hat and leave for 15 minutes. Rinse well, finish with conditioner on ends to seal hair cuticles.

We have checked this recipe on our hair and we liked the result: the super soft and fluffy hair.

Recipe for curly hair without rinsing

You can also use this gel as a leave-in, which helps eliminate frizz and shape curls.

Ingredients

App

After washing it, and still wet, give yourself a curly hair styling cream of your choice all over your hair. With a paper towel remove the excess cream. Apply the gel mixed with the argan oil and remove the excess product with absorbent kitchen paper.

You can also apply the linseed gel dry . Experiment and see how it goes. Be careful with excess product; the amount used makes all the difference. We prefer to use the gel on dry, to be able to dispense the required amount without exaggerating.

Let it dry naturally. The curls will be defined and shiny.

This gel can also be used on straight hair, without problems.
