There are brands that have become icons of luxury cosmetics, and La Prairie is one of these brands. One of the most popular products in the range is their Caviar Luxe Cream.
Created to nourish and rejuvenate, this luxurious moisturizer has been on the market for 30 years. It is the most suitable for people with dry or mature skin, as it is extremely rich.
The main asset of this product is caviar, an ingredient that is rarely seen in creams. Over the years, La Prairie has created and developed several methods to use this active ingredient that provides visible results in firming the skin.
Today, the cream features four different types of caviar-based ingredients, including caviar extract, caviar water, absolute caviar, and its most recent addition, premier caviar. All products in the Skin Caviar line include these four ingredients, which complement each other to help reveal younger-looking skin.
In addition to advances in caviar science, Skin Caviar Luxe Cream also features the Exclusive Cellular Complex that is exclusive to the brand. This blend uses biotechnology research to work with other key ingredients to amplify its hydrating, nourishing and firming powers.
But is this luxury product really worth it? Today we dove into the INCI to find out. So read on, and when you’re done, don’t miss this article with a review of the Best Moisturizers for Men .

- Glycine : As an amino acid, glycine is necessary for the development of proteins in the skin and other tissues of the body. Glycine is what is known as a nonessential amino acid, which means that it occurs naturally within the body, and does not need to be ingested from outside sources as part of the diet. However, like other amino acids, their production and preservation within the body tends to decline with age. Although it has been suggested that glycine only hydrates the skin, it does much more. When used in a skin care product or other topical treatment, glycine can help repair damaged tissue and promote healing. Glycine can also reduce wrinkles when used in conjunction with two additional amino acids, Leucine and Proline.

- Glycoproteins : “Glyco” means “sugar”, so glycoproteins are a type of protein bound to a sugar. They are considered a type of peptide and are naturally present on the surface of the skin and throughout the body. In the skin, glycoproteins work with ingredients like glycerin, ceramides, and hyaluronic acid to keep skin intact, smooth, and healthy-looking. They can also improve the natural resilience of the skin by reinforcing the strength of the skin barrier. Glycoproteins help other peptides to be more soluble in water and within the skin, which is why some products add them along with specific peptides as a way to improve delivery and stability of the formula.

La Prairie Skin Caviar Luxe Cream analysis summary
The cream offers a surprisingly extensive list, with more than 70 ingredients. Some of these ingredients offer great benefits, while others are a bit controversial.
Starting from the base of this formula, the first five ingredients mainly include silicones. Silicones as a whole are well tolerated and can act as excellent emollients and light occlusives to hydrate and protect the skin.
That being said, there are people who find silicones to be irritating or clogging pores, so if you’ve had a problem with them, it’s not a product that I would recommend.
From here, there are dozens of extracts, actives, and vitamins that make up significantly less of the formula, but still provide the majority of the benefits.
Included in this group are ingredients such as seaweed extract, shea butter, lactobacillus ferment, apple fruit extract, panax ginseng extract, calendula extract, and of course, caviar extract.
Each of these extracts and botanical ingredients offers a different set of benefits, primarily moisturizing, antioxidant, and antibacterial.
Unfortunately, there are a number of ingredients that are quite controversial. This includes four different parabens, petrolatum, a bunch of irritating fragrances, colorants, and a host of harmful preservatives.
Some of these ingredients can actually be quite beneficial, like petroleum jelly, but this petroleum derivative doesn’t always suit all skin types and there are some who choose to avoid this ingredient.
Alternative
A more concise and concentrated formula to hydrate and rejuvenate the skin is Nezeni Cosmetics Collagen cream. It does not have all these assets, but the ones it does have are very good and in large proportions.
And it also saves the inordinate amount of parabens, fragrances, preservatives and irritants, something that our skin and our health will appreciate, both now and in the future.
