Laneige Sleep Water Mask analysis summary
At first glance it doesn’t seem like a very special formula, but when you look at it on a more individual level you discover the true potential of this Laneige product.
It has various fine silicones that help disperse the thickest and greasiest ingredients. This is what gives the mask its nice feel and spreads so well.
Silicones work as an emollient and an occlusive, which means that they hydrate the skin in two ways: it creates a barrier to prevent water loss, and it penetrates deeper into the skin to make it more flexible and less prone to cracking.
In particular, cyclopentasiloxane evaporates upon application, which makes the skin feel less burdened by the product. This is ideal for those who do not like the feeling of having moisturizers on their skin. But silicones are not for all skin types, so be sure to
Hyaluronic acid (sodium hyaluronate) in the form of is in a high concentration, and is used as a very powerful moisturizer to hydrate the skin. Also, studies have shown that sodium hyaluronate is good for wound healing.
Evening Primrose Extract soothes the skin and is rich in linolenic and linoleic fatty acids, which is good for acne prone skin. While apricot extract has soothing and antioxidant benefits for the skin.
And although it is a hydrating mask, it is not lacking in antioxidants in the form of a derivative of vitamin C paired with glucose (a sugar) that breaks down into ascorbic acid in the skin.
Ascorbic acid increases collagen production, lightens skin tone and minimizes hyperpigmentation, which is why it can provide an anti-aging effect to the composition.
Another active ingredient that I really liked is Beta-Glucan, a natural polysaccharide sugar found in the cell walls of yeast, some bacteria, algae and cereals.
In this product it works as a texture enhancer with powerful anti-redness capabilities. It also doubles as an antioxidant and soothes the skin. And some more recent research has shown it to be an effective wrinkle treatment.
Unfortunately, the perfume in the mask can be irritating to some people. Particularly women with eczema or those with a history of allergic reactions to deodorants or perfumes.
In general, it is an effective product with a basic formula with which you can expect more hydrated skin the next day. Its texture and the feeling it leaves when applied is particularly good.
And although it comes in a glass jar, it includes a small spatula to prevent you from inserting your finger to catch the product and contaminating everything.
It spreads and glides easily on the skin. And again, its light and silky texture makes it as easy as possible to glide on. Skin instantly feels softer and smoother to the touch.
The next morning you can clearly see the effects on the skin, which is more plump and hydrated. This is because all of the silicones in the formula do an excellent job of fixing on the water content of the skin. In my case, it was not comedogenic (it does not clog pores).
As this is a sleep mask, it should be applied as the last step in your skincare routine, after your moisturizer or night creams. The instructions say that it should be used only twice a week (it is not quite clear why).
Alternative
The Laneige mask is fine to provide extra hydration to the skin, but if what you want is to detoxify it, and cleanse the pores in depth while hydrating and remineralizing it, I recommend that you try the mask with Vitamin C from Nezeni Cosmetics.
It has a high concentration of vitamin C to illuminate the face, lighten blemishes and stimulate collagen production, and it is also clayey to clean pores in depth, leaving the skin mattified and full of minerals.
It is the one we like the most and that is why we recommend it in our article with the best facial masks .
