SK-II Facial Treatment Mask Analysis

  • Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate(PITERA ™): Galactomyces fermentation filtrate is a by-product of fermented sake. Galactomyces is actually a nutrient dense yeast and the story goes that it was discovered in Japan (in the 1970s) after it was noticed that the hands of the old sake makers looked very young, wrinkle free and smooth. In laboratory analysis of fermented sake, galactomyces was found. During the fermentation process, galactomyces yeasts break down the natural ingredients to which they have been added, forming new compounds that are beneficial for the skin (such as amino acids, organic acids and antioxidants). So in simplest terms, the ferment filtrate is the liquid that contains all the beneficial compounds that were created during the fermentation process, and it is these compounds that benefit the skin (not the yeast directly). The benefits: Vitamins and antioxidants created in the fermentation process help strengthen the skin’s moisture barrier. This helps to keep the skin hydrated and to prevent water loss, as well as to prevent damage caused by environmental stress (such as ultraviolet light); the fermentation process helps the skin absorb nutrients more easily and quickly, and decreases the likelihood of skin sensitization. as well as to prevent damage caused by environmental stress (such as ultraviolet light); the fermentation process helps the skin absorb nutrients more easily and quickly, and decreases the likelihood of skin sensitization. as well as to prevent damage caused by environmental stress (such as ultraviolet light); the fermentation process helps the skin absorb nutrients more easily and quickly, and decreases the likelihood of skin sensitization.

SK-II Facial Treatment Mask analysis summary

The analysis has been brief due to the brief list of ingredients that it has. In fact, it only has one highly concentrated asset.

We are referring to Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate, whose trade name is Pitera ™. The luxurious Japanese brand SK-II was the first brand to produce skin care products that use this filtering, and their mask is one of them.

Well then, is it as good as it says? I have been researching the active ingredient and I could only find 4 scientific studies that have investigated the effects that Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate has on the skin.

And from those studies I have found that:

  • Reduces melanin synthesis , making it a suitable ingredient to reduce hyperpigmentation. This in vitro study , for example, found that melanin within human melanocytes was reduced by 35% when treated with 5% galactomyces ferment filtrate, and by 55% when treated with 10% of filtered (both over a 25 day period).
  • Strengthens the skin barrier by increasing keratinocyte differentiation and activating the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR), thus helping to protect the skin from water loss and UV damage, as shown in this study and is this other .
  • Reduces the number of enlarged pores and blackheads . This Korean study found that treatment with an essence containing 97% galactomyces ferment filtrate reduces the number of enlarged open pores and blackheads by 15% and 21%, respectively.
  • Reduces the production of sebum . The same study as the previous one, found that treating the skin with the essence that contains 97% galactomyces ferment filtrate decreased sebum production by 64%.
  • Reduces acne . Again, the same study found that the essence of galactomyces ferment filtrate decreased the number of acne lesions by 9%.

According to this, it is a great asset if your skin is oily, if your tone is not uniform, and if it is dehydrated. If so, apply it once or twice a week, or when you need it most.

It is a sheet format, so it is very easy to apply and remove. Use after cleansing and toning, adjusting well to skin, for 10-15 minutes.

Then remove it and massage the product all over your face until it is completely absorbed. You do not need to clarify it, unless you are going to do your makeup later. In that case, you can splash some water on your face so that the makeup sticks well.

And although the mask is for single use, many people put it back in the container, which has a liquid residue, and put it back on again. This is due, in large part, to the fact that the price of the mask is not to go around throwing away excess liquid.

The results were immediate and quite good. Any swelling is gone, leaving the skin feeling fresh and comfortable. Eliminates dryness, tightens pores, and restores radiance to the complexion.

But although it seems like the perfect mask, there is a jarring element that spoils everything, the paraben that it includes as a preservative. This inconvenience means that we cannot recommend this product for skin care, as it could be harmful in the long term.

Alternative

If you are looking for a mask that brings something good to your skin, instead of something bad or harmful, we advise you to try the Vitamin C from Nezeni Cosmetics.

Of course, it does not have parabens or any other ingredients that are irritating or harmful to the skin or health. And it also has a high concentration of active ingredients, such as vitamin C, amino acids or kaolin. We just liked it more.
